The Avenue: Issue Seven

The seventh issue of The Avenue was released on February 28, 1997. Actually it was released a few days late, but that delay was necessary to wait for tour dates to become more solid. Contents included:

Current News:

The new album was out in many countries, but we looked ahead at releases by record companies in other parts of the world. There was also the single release of "Blown By The Wind" in America, and as mentioned before, tour dates for Europe and South America were a hot topic.

"Taking It On The Road":

This article described the story behind getting the band out on the road. It includes answers to popular questions like: how do they decide which cities to play in, where all the money goes, and how much Alan has to pay out to put on a show. Alan also explained that some countries are harder to play in because of tax implications.

Of Note:

In this issue, the "Of Note:" section looks at career updates on: David Pack, Colin Blunstone, and Chris Thompson. Also noted was the re-release of Paul McCartney's "Red Rose Speedway" which featured Alan's early engineering talents.

Lenny Zakatek interview (Part Two of Two):

In this, the final part, we look at Lenny's life in the present. This time we find out how Lenny made the transition to management, producing and publishing. Included is a look at his work with Seventh Heaven and Japanese artist Hotei.

Tales Of...:

Part seven of this section brings us to the mid-1970's. This time we look at Alan's production work on Al Stewart's "Modern Times" and Pilot's "Second Flight".

"Let's Talk About...":

The question and answer section looks at lyrics and song details.

bullet What session musicians were tried on "Freudiana" but not used (I'd heard Gary Brooker was tried on "There But For The Grace of God")?

bullet Who sings the vocals on "Don't Let It Show"? The credits list Dave Townsend, but in the 1993 radio show "In The Studio" you say the vocalist is John Miles.

bullet Is Alan Parsons sheet music available?

bullet If you could have anyone perform on an AP album, who would you pick and why?

bullet How did the door open up to all the new songwriters and vocalists? (ie. after years of just Eric...)

bullet I have a copy of the English studio version of the "Freudiana" CD. Where can I get a copy of a CD that has the remaining tracks from the musical that are not on that CD?

Contest prizes in this issue include: a baseball autographed by all members of the "On Air" US touring band, a copy of the "Gambler" musical programme, and more items autographed by Alan Parsons!

In this issue, readers also got a chance to purchase merchandise from the 1996 tour.

This, and much more happened in Issue Seven of The Avenue!
