The Alan Parsons Experience

Long-time fan of AP and Electronic Music

What could I possibly say about Alan Parsons in a mere email that could honestly express how I feel about the music, & the man.

I have been an Alan Parsons fan for quite some time; being 27 yrs old I was introduced to APP from my older brother. The first track I ever heard was 'I Robot', and ever since then I have been an 'electronic' music fan. My general tastes have varied somewhat from APP, mainly I listen to the likes of modern electronic bands [Front 242, Skinny Puppy, haujobb, Assemblage 23, etc.]. I was so thrilled to hear what a keyboard could do, I had to find more! Though that is the case, APP has always been, and will always be, the foundation and the reason why I love music so much. Needless to say I am probably the most excited hardcore APP fan in regards to his up coming electronica release!! Time to school some electronic musicians on how it should be done.

Because of Alan, in my early high school days I became obsessed with [high quality] sound, and decided that audio/recording engineering was where I wanted to be. I can honestly say that one of the biggest thrills in my life was getting to witness a performance of, then meet Alan & Co. He could not have been nicer, and considering the line to greet him, spent a good amount of time with me. I told him that I was an aspiring engineer, and that I actually carried a quote in my wallet from a Mix Magazine interview of him saying, in so many words, that consistently working with audio and flat out determination was the best advice he could give to any new engineers. Alan then signed my CD "To Craig, To Determination Alan Parsons". Obviously a huge thing for me, and a piece of Alan that is tangible and something I draw inspiration from whenever I feel the need.

In the past year I have completed recording/audio engineering training from a well respected recording school. I have worked a couple of live gigs, and have done some recording and re-mixing in my home studio. I have just purchased and bass guitar and am about to take lessons. All along the way I have kept up with Alan, using the music as a listening guide to mixing and just for pure enjoyment. I recently have been toying with 5.1 [surround sound] recording/mixing, I feel that electronic music is the best forum for this form of recording, have no doubt when this hits its stride, it will be the 'next big thing'. For those who are not really into recording...trust me, Alan is the best; no ifs, ands, or buts about it....the best.

All I can do is sum up with a simple phrase, that seems to say very little, but means so much.....

Thank you Alan, keep up the amazing work!!

footnote: My favorite Alan Parsons album is: 'Try Anything Once'

Thanks for the forum!
